Hello Parents,
We had a good first week at school. It was certainly a joy to see the classes in action after a month-long break. The children’s laughter and excitement, sharing their holidays fill our classrooms.
Our new joiners are settling in well. Parents of the new joiners would be receiving a short update from the individual class teachers via email, to update you on how their children are settling in. This would be followed up with a telephone call to you at the end of your children's second week at school.
In the classes, as with tradition, children are seen embracing the Montessori materials as they work on various exercises individually and as part of a group, which is the foundation of learning. The teachers are also using this time to work one-on-one with children to help them re-familiarise with the concepts introduced and presentations of activities given before we closed sessions for the summer.
E-Learning: E-learning in the classes will resume. Children are given the opportunity to choose books from a vast selection of books through the 'Epic Readers'. The teachers would set the criteria for the children to select books of their choice based on the child’s reading skill and age.
Holding Hands with IB (HHIB): As part of our preparatory programme for the children who are in the last year with us (pre-grade one), we would be introducing them to a ‘home learning journal’. The journal will be sent every Friday with little assignments and/or exercises to be done by the children. We request that the books be returned on the following working day.
They would also begin e-reading at home through an online guided reading programme called ‘Raz Kids’® The programme may be accessed using a PC, Mac® and tablets. You may also download the app from Google Play or the App Store®. Kindly await further information from your child’s class teacher.
Work Folders: The work folder containing the work done over the week by the children in the form of worksheets, art and craft, would be sent at the end of the week. Kindly ensure that the empty folder is returned on the following working day.
Extended Day Sessions: The children who joined the various extended day sessions have also been settling well to a full day schedule at school. It is nice to see new friendships being formed, too. We request that you monitor your child’s lunch portions so he/she does not feel uncomfortable having to complete the portion over what he is used to.
Culture: The Mid-Autumn Festival will be celebrated on September 13, 2019. Apart from the customary visit from the ‘Moon Lady’, the children who are enrolled in the Mandarin Immersion Programme (BDB) would be entertaining us with special performances. So do keep the evening free to celebrate the Moon Festival with us in school. We welcome volunteers for the moon festival.
We hope you enjoy the pictures below of the action in the classes. We shall be back with more next week. Have a pleasant weekend.
